it seems a little scaremongering to me. It hasn't "spread to Engand", it was found in just one bird - and where was that bird? In quarantine, which proves just what a great thing quarantine actually is.
Of course the bird flu is worrying, but I think they exagerrated with the UK connection. Maybe I should cancel my trip there???
Thanks for all the kind words and good wishes!
Quarantine is great for captured/domestic animals, but what about wild migrating birds? They don't know political borders--they can't be contained so easily. We see this happening in Turkey and Romania--already there are confirmed reports.
I agree, the case in the UK is a tad bit exaggerating for right now. However, there is the HUGE potential for it to land there as well as explode into a pandemic if governments don't have plans or resources in place (though as well see with FEMA, any plan/resource won't suffice--a well thought out comprehensive one is absolutely necessary).
I think Katrina shows us that there are world wide risks everywhere and no one, it seems, wants to talk and do something to REALLY prevent or prepare for what could be the worst disaster the world has seen.
